Lamar vs Coca-Cola

"We're losing more people to the sweets than to the streets."

So explained Rev. Delman Coates, the pastor at Mount Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland who, along with Rev. William Lamar, the senior pastor at D.C.’s historic Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, has filed suit against the multinational beverage giant Coca-Cola and its trade association, the American Beverage Association (ABA). This legal action calls out Coca-Cola Company for its their aggressive marketing to children, deceptive advertising, and deliberate misrepresentation of the science tying consumption of sugary beverages to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

Legal representation is being provided by the the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), the Public Health Advocacy Institute, and two private firms. The full text of their action is available here.
